Post-Event Update: We hit our fundraising goal! Donate here (if you are able).
Our organization came together in the immediate aftermath of the 2016 presidential election when we all thought, “Oh no… what do we do now?” This question quickly evolved into one that was more hopeful: “What can I do to help my nation be what I believe it should be?”
Run For All was our first event in January 2017, and this simple question was the headline of the posters we put up all over the neighborhood. At the time, we didn’t know that we’d do anything beyond this one event. But success is a great motivator, and we knew we had the opportunity to do more.
Our organization is small, made up of friends and neighbors just like you. And to be completely honest, most of us at Boston For All are not the ones directly affected by the worst policies of the Trump administration and its awful enablers. We have the privilege to choose whether or not to engage in this work. Our choice was to continue to create opportunities to support those organizations who won’t let the worst impulses of our society take over.
Since then, we’ve held over a dozen different events and raised more than $65,000 to support the work of some remarkable organizations:
- Mass ACLU
- MIRA – Massachusetts Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Coalition
- KIND – Kids in Need of Defense
- BIJAN – Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network
- Komera
- Redes en Acción Venezuela
- The Greg Hill Foundation’s Restaurant Strong Fund
- Frontline Foods
- Boston’s COVID-19 Family Relief Fund
These are the organizations doing the difficult on-the-ground work. Our mission is to provide direct financial support to them without getting in their way. We create free community events that give people the opportunity to donate – if they are able to do so.
The COVID-19 crisis didn’t stop us from creating these opportunities. Just like everyone else, we adapted – with a series of virtual events called, “Inside Voices.” This Thursday evening is our fourth episode, with a TRULY INCREDIBLE lineup of storytellers joining us. It feels like a significant moment, when we have the honor to spotlight a diverse array of important voices in our community – and to lend our support to the organization Violence in Boston, a respected and powerful player in combating racial injustice in our city.
Stories in the theme of “From Inspiration to Purpose” will be told by:
- Julia Mejia, Boston City Councilor At-Large
- Tito Jackson: Community Leader, Former Boston City Councilor, and former candidate for Mayor of Boston
- Dr. Robbie Goldstein: Candidate for Congress in MA 8th District, founder of the MGH Transgender Health Clinic
- Cristina Aguillera-Sandoval: Immigrant Rights Advocate and Founder of Redes en Acción Venezuela
- Dominique Herard: Teacher focused on literacy and social justice, Associate Director of the Boston Writing Project.
- Cathy Pemberton: Social worker and trauma trainer to first responders, specializing in prevention of domestic violence
- Joe Sierra: Personal Trainer with Innercity Weightlifting
If, like us, you are seeking ways to be a productive member of the movement for justice in our society – please consider joining us this Thursday to hear these stories of inspiration and donate whatever you choose to this incredible organization.
